Visited Lucky today. Took the quick route
along the Lane. It’s great not having to dodge Killer any more.
Lucky was shivering and very upset. His
humans had gone out and locked him on the wrong side of the
door. Poor Lucky had been sitting on the snow all morning pining
to get in. Silly thing, the answer was so simple, for the
upstairs window had been left slightly ajar. I told Lucky all
he had to do was climb up the fir tree, crawl along a branch and
then leap onto the window ledge. I watched as slowly he
scrambled up the tree, stopping occasionally for a rest – but
being careful not to look down. (Lucky must be the only cat in
the world who is scared of heights.) Eventually he was level
with the window and began edging along a thin branch. The branch
swayed under his weight but he clung on nervously and kept
going. When he reached the end I shouted encouragingly, “You can
do it! Jump! Jump!”
With eyes firmly closed, Lucky jumped. The
cold weather must have affected his jump-bones for normally he
could leap that distance easily. But he got nowhere near the
ledge and fell to the ground like a sparrow that had forgotten
how to fly. Fortunately he landed in a snow drift so wasn’t
badly hurt – I guess that’s why he’s called Lucky. Through
tears, he asked if he could come to my house to heat up. Wish I
had thought of that earlier.
Today my humans bought me a new chair. It’s
amazingly big, it looks fabulously soft and I expect it’s
wonderfully comfortable. I haven’t had a chance to sit on it
yet, for Trousers has been testing it out for me – all evening.
